The face behind EquineRoyale

Whilst most of us were sulking into a cuppa in our PJs during lockdown (me included!), this lady was casually building herself an empire...

And you know there's nothing I love more than a bit of strong-willed girl power!

So I caught up with Ellie Merrick, the face behind EquineRoyale, to find out a bit more about the brand and how it all started.

A quick introduction...

EquineRoyale is a brand new equestrian online retailer, already stocking some fantastic brands, with some juicy plans for the future.

What do I love about the brand?!

For me, you can really tell all the products stocked on the website have been carefully selected by someone who knows the industry and has real-life experience in what works and doesn't work in the horse world.

There is such a good range of products already on the website, from competition wear to everyday wear, even at this early stage, to suit every rider and every budget.

And much like me with this blog, the main focus is building an equestrian community around the brand to interact with so you can give them what they want!

Here is what Ellie had to say-

"Hey, my name is Ellie and I’m the owner of EquineRoyale.
EquineRoyale was launched in June 2020 and what an amazing 4 months it has been! I have ridden and owned my own horses for over 12 years and couldn’t imagine a life without them. I was fortunate enough to have very supportive parents allowing me to compete up to national level as a teenager before starting my career as a show jump groom.
Fast forward to now… 23 year old me living my dream, starting out as an equestrian retailer.

What made you decide to first create Equine Royale?

I have always wanted to work in an industry I love, having worked as a groom for a few years, before being stuck in a boring office job, I got a taste of the industry. I knew I definitely wanted to find a way to combine my love for horses with a realistic career path! EquineRoyale was created from there as I wanted to create a platform that sells a range of equestrian products from everyday riding wear to higher-level competition goods. Starting EquineRoyale has given me something to be excited to wake up and do each day! It doesn’t feel like work!

What makes EquineRoyale different from other online retailers?

I think it's the fact that we stock such a range of products to suit everyone rather than being pigeon-holed into one specific category. I wanted to make sure we had something for everyone from high end to budget items but keeping the same great quality. Another unique thing about EquineRoyale is that we aim to create a real community around the brand so that we can interact with our customers and get their feedback so that we can provide products, chosen by equestrians.. for equestrians.

What has been the hardest part of setting up the brand so far?

Funding!! I have had to self-fund everything from my normal full-time job. It's frustrating that I don't have the immediate budget to get all of the brands that I want to stock, up on the website from the get-go. It's definitely going to be a work in progress for a while but it will be worth it! Getting my name out there and being recognised as a brand has also been hard! Especially during covid when trade stand shows don’t exist, I have had to rely a lot on social media etc. That's why I'm so excited about this partnership with Killer Queen Showjumping, it's nice to work with another 'normal' horsey person who shows a genuine interest in the brand, and wants to help lift you up in what's normally such a dog eat dog industry!

And the best part?

I cannot put into words the feeling I get when each and every order is placed, it's such a buzz as it's the culmination of lots of hard work finally paying off! I honestly have to stop myself personally emailing every single customer thanking them for their support! I also love constantly brain storming about new brands, new opportunities and how we can put EquineRoyale on the map!

What is your favourite product that you stock atm?

That' s an easy one for me! It has to be the Cameo tight collection. They are so stylish, affordable and fab quality!

(Check out the Cameo Riding Tights here!)

What brands would you love to work with in the future?

I would love to work with some of the higher end manufacturers like Equipe, Veredus and Samshield, I love their products and the quality is always next level! However I am also really keen to discover and work with some newer, small brands as long as they have products that I think the EquineRoyale customers would love!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to start up their own equestrian business?

JUST DO IT!! You have to be prepared for the early mornings and late finishes, but If it is something your passionate about get your head down, go for it, and never look back!!
